[뉴웨이브] Tears For Fears - Shout
음악 많이 듣는 사람 치고 Shout를 안 들어봤다면 거짓말일 수도 있다라고 생각한다. 영국 4위, 미국 1위, 25개국에서 10위라는 숫자를 말하지 않아도 그만큼 전세계적으로 크게 인기를 끌었으니 말이다.
Shout 가 수록된 앨범 Songs from the Big Chair (1985)은 텔레비젼 물에서 이름을 따왔다 하며, Tears for Fears의 2번째 앨범으로 영국 차트 2위, 미국 차트 1위를 차지하였고, 무려 3곡, Everybody wants to rule the world, Shout, 그리고 Head over hill이 큰 히트를 거두며 상업적으로도 큰 성공을 하였다.
강한 멜로디, 강한 비트 그리고 기타 솔로가 눈에 띠는 곡으로 보컬에서 부드럽고 여유만만하고 소울 성향이 엿보이는 기존 곡과는 달리 직선적이고 약간 공격적인 성향이다. 그런 단순한 성향만큼 게스트 멤버들과 쭉 앉아서 뚝딱뚝딱 금새 만들었다 하는군요. 그러나 내용은 냉전 이후 방황하는 사람들이 세상을 직시하자라는 내용을 담고 있다고 합니다. Jakatta, Fergie 등이 댄스로 편곡하기도 락, 메탈 밴드가 부르기도 심지어 힙합 곡으로 편곡되었습니다.
저는 예전에 가사 따라하면서 영어 공부했던 기억이 나는군요. 전에 TFF가 뭔가 찾아봤는데 Tears for Fears를 가리키더군요.
